Spiritualilty & Mental Health

Course Outline

The scope and scale of mental illness in our modern world is worsening, largely due to the spiritual vacuum resulting from scientific materialism (physicalism) as a dominant force in our culture.

Physicalism yields to idealism, where consciousness is fundamental, as a more practicable world view, offering especially useful models of the mind-brain relationship in discussions of mental wellness.

Developed in the mid-1900’s, the biopsychosocial model – encompassing biological, psychological and social factors in our understanding of disease and diagnoses  continues to serve as one of the principal philosophies of clinical care in the U.S.

Adding a spiritual component to the biopsychosocial model of clinical care can give us a greater understanding of how people give meaning to their suffering, cope with disease and heal from illness.

In order to truly understand spirituality, it must be experienced firsthand, but developing a connection to "something greater" can be challenging in a secular setting, or even in religious traditions.

Brainwave entrainment audio technology supports a pathway to personal growth and mental wholeness and wellness.

Placebo effect is an acknowledgment by the medical community of the power of beliefs to affect our health, an ultimate expression of mind-over-matter causality. Belief is very powerful in healing, especially mental health.

The brain serves as a filter that allows only certain conscious states, with consciousness (self-awareness) originating as a fundamental property of the universe.

Biological, psychological and social treatments of mental disorders define the mainframe of American psychiatric practice.  Yet scientific research shows that spirituality can significantly improve mental and physical health.

This empirical evidence is ushering in a changing paradigm in psychiatry – from a biopsychosocial model of diagnosis and treatment to a biopsychosocial-spiritual model of diagnosis and treatment.  This paradigm shift has significant implications for physicians, mental health professionals and other healers.

NeuralHelix listeners report a wide range of effects, including physical sensations, mental effects and emotional responses. Spiritual experiences and extra-sensory perceptions are also possible.

Listeners have benefited from improved sleep, focus and relaxation, while others find relief from anxiety and addiction.

The reality of non-local consciousness is crucial for the modern scientific evaluation of consciousness. The afterlife realm overlaps with dreams, psychedelic drug experiences, etc.

Going within through centering prayer and deep meditation offers powerful healing potential. Imagination offers power in seeking wellness, accessing the soul's origin in a realm of ideals.

A pilot study was published in the Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease, looking at how NeuralHelix audio recordings, produced by Sacred Acoustics, affect anxiety levels in psychiatry patients and non-patients.

In a multiple regression analysis controlling for sociodemographic factors, medications, and treatment-related variables, a statistically significant improvement in anxiety was seen in the psychiatry + meditation group for the Total Anxiety score (p < 0.01).

Integrate recordings used in the pilot study (Whole Mind Bundle) for listening in-office or to establish a practice at home. Best listening protocols and common challenges are reviewed.

Identifying the neutral inner observer within provides a foundation for effectively managing destructive thought patterns and emotional release.

Rising above the limitations of the ego mind through developing our relationship with our higher soul and primordial mind offers a more robust pathway towards wholeness and healing.

The primary causal force in the universe exists in the mental realm, and the mental aspect of sentient beings allows access to that realm in promoting top-down causal influence in human lives. Love and connection provide ultimate healing.

Rather than being a peripheral part of mental health, spirituality will be central to mental health care.

As healers, it is vital to be on our own spiritual journeys, to heal ourselves and to never stop growing. This contributes to being an effective therapist and healer.

Consciously generating feelings of gratitude represents a standard coherence technique and leads to spiritual growth and self-love.

Each of us must use trial and error to find the techniques that work best for us. Sacred Acoustics recordings can be used for flexible purposes.
